English Scones

Image
A very basic receipe I'd taken up from my Form 1 Home Science class back in the 70th...hehe retro sey.... I like the simplicity, the raw smell of freshly baked scones from then oven. Lovely adorn with jam and butter that is gradually melting to give me... aaahhhhhh..feeling!   Here is the recipe: 3 cups of flour 1/2 cup of castor sugar 1 tbsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 3/4 cups of unsalted cold butter ( omit salt if you choose to use salted butter) 1 egg 1 cup of fresh milk. Mix dry ingredients ia a bowl. Cut in butter into small pieces onto the flour mixture and use your fingers to incorporate butter into flour until a mixture like a bread crumb is formed. Beat egg into milk lightly - Gradually pour it to flour mixture then mix an dknead using your palm to make a dough. Spread dough into the cutting board. Cut the dough into shapes you like. I use biscuit cutter to make even size. Bake for 10 12 min. Serve warm with butter and jam. Walla!!!
